How does plastic harm the environment ?

Plastic Harm environment in many ways. Plastics collected on the ground or in water are called plastic pollution, which has a bad effect on the lives of birds, animals and Humans. Plastic pollution affects the Earth, Air, Waterways and seas.

What is Plastic?

Plastic is mainly made from synthetic resins emitted from Petroleum substances. Plastic contains  molecules of chlorine, fluorine, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen etc.

Plastic is a substance that is used in large quantities in every home. From polythene bags to large  containers are used today of plastic. Because plastic is very cheap and it is also very easy to carry from one place to another.

There is no doubt that science has made a lot of progress and has created new  products that will make it easier for a person to do everything. But each coin has two facets, some advantages and some losses. Exactly similar to plastic research.

The benefit is so great that man started using plastic for his convenience. Just as we often see in  weddings that 200-250 ml of plastic bottle is used for water now because it is little  difficult to provide  water of glass to every person .

As well as advantages, plastic disadvantage is also high because plastic is a substance that never fades or  burns. If we burn it, then it can have a very bad effect on our environment.

Some statistics about Plastic Pollution

According The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)  Indians consume 11  kg of plastic per year  But this figure is estimated to rise in the coming years.

India's total population estimate is 130 crore, then total plastic consumption can be easily calculated. Just  like the above mentioned plastic does not burn or burn, so where does it go and how it is wrapped ??

Today we will talk on this topic

Plastics can be recycled in very small quantities and the rest of the plastic wastage is thrown into the  oceans, many marine creatures die after eating this plastic. And if this waste is thrown on the Land, then  it decrease the  fertility power of land. so plastic pollution has become a serious global problem .

The garbage we throw it contains a large part of the plastic. Have you ever wondered where this  garbage goes?

What is plastic pollution?

Plastics collected on the ground or in water are called plastic pollution, which has a bad effect on the  lives of birds, animals and Humans. Plastic pollution has a dangerous effect on humans and habitat of  animals. Plastic pollution affects the Earth, Air, Waterways and seas.

Have you Read-

The plastic is made primarily by synthetic resins deriving from petroleum substances. In rations, plastic monomers are made by combining a combination of ammonia and benzene, including chlorine, fluorine, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur molecules in the plastic.

Today, every country in the world is struggling with the destructive problems of plastic pollution. In our country, especially the urban environment is severely affected by plastic pollution. In cities, cattle, other animals and birds are dying of having a large number of plastic bags.

This creates serious environmental imbalance. Due to lack of water solubility, the plastic never ends. And increases the pollution of water and prevents the flow of water on the earth, causing polluted water to produce bees, mosquitoes and poisonous worms that spread malaria and dengue.

Why is Plastic Pollution a Problem?

Plastic is non-biodegradable. There are non-biodegradable substances that never burn and fade and   harm to the environment. Recycling of garbage is extremely important because it takes thousands of  years for a small polythene of plastic to be completely converted into small particles called microplastic.

Polythene and plastic are spoiling people's health from village to city. The drainage system of the city  often gets filled with polythene. Due to this the drains become stagnant. Its use has increased rapidly. By  consuming tea or hot milk in plastic glasses, his chemical goes into the stomach of the people. It causes  diarrhea, and other serious diseases.

Plastic bags below 40 microns are not biodegradable: they sustain in the environment for ever. In  addition to not being degraded for a long time, plastic causes many ill-effects, which are harmful to  human health. For example, PVC, used in the manufacture of pipes, windows and doors, is made by  polymerization of vinyl chloride. Chemicals used in its composition can cause cancer of the brain and  liver.

The use of plastic has started to be the highest in our lives. Knowing that its use is harmful, we are using  them in a trance. If its use stops, then it will be a matter of talking. Burning plastic will also cause  damage. Its poisonous smoke is dangerous for health.

Of the 33 million tons of plastic waste generated in the U.S. each year, only 7 percent is recycled. This  plastic waste ends up in landfills, beaches, rivers and oceans and contributes to such devastating  problems as the Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch, a swirling vortex of garbage the size of a continent  where plastic outnumbers plankton., most plastic is made from oil.

How does Plastic Contribute to Air Pollution?

As we know plastic recycle is very low, in the same way when the fire is set up in the plastic, then there  is a lot of harmful gas coming out of it which affects the health.

Plastic waste produces many toxic gases. As a result, severe air pollution is produced which promotes  cancer, stops physical development and causes fatal disease. Dangerous gases like ethylene oxide,  benzene and xylene are produced during the production of plastic. Dioxin also emerges on burning it  which is very poisonous and is a cancer-causing element.

What are Causes of Plastic Pollution?

1). Plastic is not expensive, so it is used more. It is very easy to take the plastic from one place  to another.  It has occupied our land, plastic is not easily decomposed, and so it pollutes the soil and water of that  area where it is dumped .

2).  After a single Use, most people throw plastic bottles and polythene bags. This  increases the  pollution rate in the land as well as in the oceans, mainly in developing  and undeveloped countries.

Reuse polythene bags otherwise avoid its use as much as possible

  3. Plastic bags, plastic bottles, electronic identical discarded, toys etc., especially in  urban areas, are  blocking the drainage of canals, rivers and lakes.

   4. Every year around 100 million tons of plastic is produced around the world, out of which 25  million tons are being stored in non-destructive plastic environment.

   5. Around 70,000 tons of plastic are thrown in the oceans around the world. Fishing               nets  and other synthetic materials are eaten by jellyfish and terrestrial as well as                aquatic animals,  which can lead to the bio-accumulation of plastic inside their body.          This causes obstruction in the  respiratory tract; in the end, many fishes and turtles die        each year due to this.

Effects of plastic pollution

1). Plastic bags and bottles are eaten by many stray animals in the dirty waste thrown by us, which can cause them to die.
2). In the rainy season, the plastic garbage lying on the road, which is in nearby reservoirs and canals and  drains, this waste is taken by the fish, due to which the fish start having problems in respiration.

3). These synthetic materials  and Fish nets  reduce the quality of water.
4). When the plastic is thrown in the open, the plastic material comes in contact with water and produces  dangerous chemicals. These compounds decrease the level of ground water, and the quality of the  landscape water decreases.

5). There is innumerable deaths of aquatic animals due to plastic pollution in sea water bodies, and this is  also affecting the aquatic plants to a great extent.

6). The quality of water in our house is deteriorating, because in the plastic there are some toxic chemicals  such as  bi-phenol A, and polystyrene sub-product present. These products are spoiling the state of  drinking water every day. Bi-phenol A is a harmful chemical that damages the breeding system of  animals.

7). Air accumulates plastic from one place to another, thereby increasing the soil litter. It affects trees,  towers, buildings, etc., and any animal that comes in the area of contact with them gets entangled and  dies because of their suffocation.

8). Burning of plastic increases atmospheric pollution and releases poisonous chemicals, which is a cause of  air pollution. When they are recycled, then workers are required to breathe in poisonous chemicals,  which makes them read the risks of skin and respiratory problems.

 Solutions to prevent plastic pollution

    1. The best way to reduce plastic policing is to minimize the plastic usage as much as possible.

    2. We should use bags made of paper or cloth as much as possible for shopping, and should   avoid          bringing plastic bags at home.

    3. Understand the seriousness of the problem of plastic pollution, and understand the                                consequences of the dumping plastic thrown in water and on the ground. Ensuring proper                    disposal of  plastic.

     4. Plastic which is disposed of, can be recycled and used in many different ways such as bags,                purses, or pouches. Biodigradeable  plastic bags are available, which have proven to be quite              helpful.

    5. Educate more people for the Harmful impact of plastic on humans, animals and other species.

    6.  Many tiny plastic particles  come from toothbrush and clothes so Use an eco-friendly bamboo             toothbrush with natural bristles.

    7.  Carry a reusable water bottle rather than single use plastic bottles. Read full article....

Name of Top five countries which produce maximum plastic pollution

1. China -Plastic Waste Generation Per Year: 59.8 million tons.

2.  United States- Plastic Waste Generation Per Year: 37.83 million tons.
(A New Report Shows that the U.S. is Still Exporting 225 Containers per Day of Plastic Waste to those  Countries which have Poor Waste Management)

3.  Germany- Plastic Waste Generation Per Year: 14.48 million tons

4. Brazil- Plastic Waste Generation Per Year: 11.85 million tons

5. Japan- Plastic Waste Generation Per Year: 7.99 million tons

whereas  India produce Plastic Waste Generation Per Year: 4.49 million tons

According to the World Economic Forum, in India, 56 lac tonnes of plastic waste is produced annually.  India is dumped 60 percent of the waste which is dumped in the sea annually,

Some steps have been taken to reduce the plastic pollution by India.

5 June 2018, World Environment Day was led by India and India's Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi  said that by 2020 single usage of plastic in India will be completely banned. It really is a very  appreciative step.

Ban of single use plastic in india by 2020 is really appreciative step

In short, we should use less plastic. Avoid plastic as quickly as possible. More and more people  should guide how much plastic is and how harmful it is to animals.
