Actually this is an opportunity when we tell people how much effort is being made to keep our historical and natural heritage for generations to come.

This day also shows how much of our heritage needs to be maintained now. Why is it important to keep the heritage safe, know the awareness.

How Does Heritage Protection Work

In order to preserve any heritage, two organizations are assessed by the International Monuments and Place Council and the World Conservation Association. Then the World Heritage Committee is recommended. The committee settles once a year and decides whether to include any nominated property in the World Heritage List. The World Heritage Site Committee supervises specific locations, such as forest area, mountain, lake, desert, monument, building or city etc. under the auspices of UNESCO.

Theme of World Heritage day- 2020

The theme for 2020 is  ‘Shared Cultures, Shared Heritage, Shared Responsibility’.

Theme of  'World Heritage Day' 2019

World Heritage Day 2019 will explore the theme surrounding rural landscapes. Heritage rural sites form an integral part of our lives especially because they include activities of agriculture and fishing.

what are Rural landscapes-

rural landscapes are defined as “terrestrial and aquatic areas co-produced by human-nature interaction used for the production of food and other renewable natural resources, via agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing and aquaculture, forestry, wild food gathering, hunting, and extraction of other resources, such as salt. Rural landscapes are multi functional resources. At the same time, all rural areas have cultural meanings attributed to them by people and communities: all rural areas are landscapes.” Rural landscapes encompass an increasing accumulation of tangible and intangible heritage which is in constant adaptation to environmental, cultural, social, political and economic conditions.

For centuries, even for millennia, rural landscapes have maintained a balance between human activity and their environment. A myriad of everyday actions have in some cases resulted in moderate evolution, and in other cases in dramatic transformations due to changes in production methods, technological advances or economic and political changes.
